This is the second painting of the good food cooking series is called: Confident guesswork and improvisation

From a quote of Paul Theroux, who said : Cooking requires confident guesswork and improvisation,  experimentation and substitution, dealing with failure and uncertainty in a creative way.

The background of  my inspiration for this series of paintings:

In April 2021 we visited friends that had recently moved to our neighbourhood. They prepared us a wonderful meal in Indonesian style. Many different dishes, as is custom with Indonesian food, with delicious smell and vegetables with vibrant colours.

We were seated at a table in their brand new kitchen. The cabinets of the kitchen were in stylish anthracite grey. They were still finishing off their kitchen with silver and gold accessories, which match perfectly with the dark anthracite grey.

When we got back home (just in time for the Covid evening curfew) I was very inspired by the vibrant colours of the food against the anthracite grey background, and how well these colours combined.

The next morning, before breakfast, I started working on a series of 7 paintings inspired by the delicious food and their colours in the anthracite grey kitchen. I worked with various motives in fore- and background to give each painting its own unique character.

I like to read inspirational quotes to get me in the right mindset for painting. For the naming of the paintings in this series I have used parts of quotes about cooking.
